Why We Chose the Name “Agathos”

When we started building this nonprofit, we wanted a name that would be more than a brand. We wanted something that represented the standard we’re trying to live by—clear purpose, consistent action, and real impact.
Agathos comes from the Greek word meaning “good.” Not “good” as a vague compliment, and not “good” as a temporary feeling—but good as a practice: showing up, doing the work, and choosing what helps people most.
“Good” That You Can Measure
In education, people care deeply—but schools still go without basics. Teachers still pay out of pocket. Students still miss opportunities because of resource gaps.
For us, “Agathos” means turning good intentions into concrete support:
classroom essentials that help learning happen today
targeted resources that strengthen programs and outcomes
a transparent process where support can be tracked from request to delivery
A Name That Sets a Standard
Choosing “Agathos” is also a reminder to us: the work has to be honest and practical. That means staying focused on what matters, using donations responsibly, and building trust through transparency.
We want people to hear the name and think: This is good work—done the right way.
What Agathos Stands For
Agathos is built on a simple belief: every child deserves access to a high-quality education, regardless of their school’s budget. The name reflects our commitment to doing good with intention—supporting public schools with resources that directly impact students and teachers.
Thank you for being part of this from the beginning. If the idea behind Agathos resonates with you, we’d love for you to follow along, share our mission, or get involved in the work.
